Arena Commander 1.0 is released with a bunch of new junk in the trunk. They’ve added in 14 more ships and it appears all of the Auroras are flyable as well as all 4 of the newly released Mustang ship lineup. Also, the Avenger is now flyable.
They also added in new guns and components you can get from Voyager Direct (like a gun called the Panther, the next upgrade in line from bulldog->badger guns), a new hud system, new missile mechanics (multiple missiles on a target and firing missiles at multiple targets at once), and the signature system that includes mechanics like signal to noise ratios.
To top it off there’s something called the public test universe that you can opt into on the site that will apparently drop you into some of the most alpha-y of things to test out. They also added friends and lobbies to make launching into the game with friends easier to do. This was much needed, and I’m glad to see it made it in! The friend code thing just wasn’t working out for me.
The new ships listed in the patch notes as being added in this build. These are just the new ones, as there’s also 300 series in the game, m50, ect… :
- Arena Commander Ready Ships (..):
- Mustangs (all): Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, Omega
- Auroras (all): CL Clipper, ES, LN Legionnaire, LX Deluxe
- Hornets (all): F7C, F7C-M Super Hornet, F7C-R Hornet Tracker, F7C-S Hornet Ghost
- Cutlass Black
There is also preorders going on for some physical goods like tshirts, a dogtag, and a new Mustang goliath mousepad. For anyone interested, I bought a goliath mousepad and liked it so much I bought a second one for my other computer. They’re impressively high quality, and large enough to fit my joystick on the left, keyboard in the middle, and plenty of mouse room on the right. After a year of heavy use I noticed someone had spilled a couple drops of soda on one, so I put them both in the bathtub with warm water running over the top of them and scrubbed the high use areas with only a toothbrush and the water. Was quick, easy, they looked brand new, and there was no fading or fraying of the images printed into them. So yeah… I love them.
As of the writing of this, they’ve been having connection issues server-side. They’ve made a lot of progress on it in the last 24 hours and we’re keeping our fingers crossed it’ll all be cleared up in the near future. If you have problems launching the game from the launcher, make sure you have a language selected in the launcher’s options as this is a cause of some issues.
